RNID and youth volunteering charity 'v' have joined forces to produce information for employers on hearing loss in the workplace, RNID's Telephone Hearing Check, and where to go for further advice. RNID staff and 'v' volunteers are encouraging human resources (HR) staff to think about the economic cost of hearing loss and promote good hearing health among their employees.
More than 40% of people aged 50 or over have some form of hearing loss so it is vital that employers provide staff with information about taking action to get the best hearing they can.
Emma Harrison, head of campaigns at RNID says: "More than 40% of people aged 50 or over have some form of hearing loss so it is vital that employers provide staff with information about taking action to get the best hearing they can. It makes good business sense too - staff will feel less isolated, happier, more productive, and are less likely to take early retirement."
"Many people wait up to 15 years between the onset of hearing loss and seeking advice about it, but the unnecessary impact of hearing loss on working, personal and social lives can be avoided. Hearing health is important for staff, the employer and the business - take action now".
